The 2016 Commercial Design project is an insurance company located in Nashville, Tennessee.  The new premises is an existing single-story shell of 3,725 square feet that will be transformed into an updated office facility for the client. Specific areas to be designed include the receptionist and waiting areas, President’s office, conference room, break room, copy room, utility room, restrooms, and offices for four agents.

This contemporary-designed space will feature an analogous color-scheme utilizing bright greens, blues, and blue-greens with accents of white (and accents of violet in the break room) to enforce the design-inspiration of life and nature, while invoking a calming feeling in this workplace.

The entry will open into the reception and waiting area with an eye-catching water-feature stone wall for emphasis on the reception desk. This desk, a custom-made stone and wood plank linear piece, will feature air plants nestled into the front, highlighted by LED striplights to accent the contrasting texture against the smooth plane. Adjacent to this space will be the waiting area with open, linear seating providing a casual, welcoming feel. White, porcelain tile will cover the floor giving a clean, and peaceful allure to the entry, while clear, white, leaf-adorned ceiling tiles will provide balance, and continue the theme of nature throughout the building.

To the right of these areas will be the president’s office. This office will feature neutral, grey carpeting, grey walls with an accent wall featuring a geometric-patterned wallcovering, and a warm wood-planked ceiling. Casegoods in this office will echo the warm wood of the ceiling and the white accents carried throughout the facility.   Fabrics in vibrant blues and greens will swathe the rectilinear seating pieces- re-enforcing the analogous color-scheme, and the far wall will be encased in windows- letting in natural light.

Across the hallway will be the conference room featuring neutral, grey carpeting, a blue wallcovering, and chairs wrapped in a blue, chevron pattern.  Geometric lighting will add interest to the space against a warm wood-plank ceiling that contrast with the cool, white case pieces.

The agent offices will feature clean, white systems furniture accented by fabrics in blue and greens. The spaces will further be accented by carpet tile in a blue and green linear pattern. Adjacent to the agent offices will be a break-out area featuring an air-plant wall that unifies with the air plants in the reception and further suggests the importance of natural beauty.

The break room will feature a violet and green square-patterned floor, white casegoods, cabinetry, and countertops, and fabric in a green and violet rectilinear pattern. An accent wall will showcase an eye-catching wallcovering in a complementary leaf- pattern, and a calm, cool green paint will encircle the remaining three walls.

The copy and utility rooms will further carry the blue and green design with light-green walls, and speckled, light-blue floors, while the restrooms will echo the design with pale-green walls, green wall-tiling and white floors and ceilings.

Good design is achieved in this space by utilizing natural daylight in the office work-areas by providing adjacencies to windows and by incorporating nature in the design with the use of air plants and natural colors that provide a soothing environment for workers and customers alike.
